Getting started

What is Findyst?

Findyst is a web app for running photo scavenger hunt games at live events: guests join on their phones, complete photo, video, and trivia challenges, and watch a live leaderboard while you run the show from an organizer dashboard.

You build the game (photo, video, text-answer, multiple-choice, and QR challenges, point values, optional hints), guests join by scanning a QR code, and it all happens in the browser. You can go from a blank game to a shareable QR code in minutes.

It's built for one-off, live events: weddings, team offsites, birthday parties, school trips, bar crawls, fundraisers. Under the hood it's offline-tolerant and mobile-first, so it holds up on spotty venue Wi-Fi and older phones, not just flagship devices on great signal.

Do I need to download an app to play?

No. Findyst runs entirely in the phone's browser. Guests scan a QR code or open a link, and they're playing within seconds.

There's nothing to install and nothing to update mid-event. App-store friction is the biggest reason people bail on games at parties. Nobody wants to download something for a 20-minute activity.

The only account in the picture is yours as the organizer, and that's free to set up. Guests never see a signup screen.

Do my guests need to create an account?

No. Guests pick a display name and an avatar and they're in. No email, no password, no signup screen.

This is deliberate. The whole point of a live event game is instant participation, not a registration flow standing between your guests and the fun.

If a guest's phone dies or they switch browsers mid-game, they can rejoin with their game code and pick up where they left off. No account needed to resume, either.

What devices does Findyst work on?

Any modern phone with a browser: iPhone Safari, Android Chrome, and everything in between. No special hardware, no OS restrictions.

If a guest's phone can open a webpage, it can play Findyst. That includes older and budget Android phones, which is where a lot of scavenger hunt apps quietly fall apart.

Findyst also works internationally. There's no region lock, so it travels with you whether your event is down the street or across the world.

Joining & playing

How do guests join a game?

They scan a QR code (or open a link and type in a short passcode), pick a display name and avatar, and they're playing.

You share the QR code however makes sense for your event: table cards at a wedding, a slide on the screen before a meeting, a printed sign for a bar crawl. Guests scan it with their camera, land on the join screen, and never leave their browser.

If you've scheduled the game ahead of time, guests can join the lobby early, set up their profile, and form teams before the countdown hits zero, so nobody's fumbling with a QR code once the game actually starts.

What happens if someone's phone dies mid-game?

They can pick up right where they left off by rejoining with their game code, even on a different phone or browser.

Progress, points, and team assignment are tied to the session, not the device, so a dead battery or a browser crash doesn't cost anyone their standing on the leaderboard.

This also covers the more common case: someone hands their phone off to charge and borrows a different one. Same code, same game, same progress.

How do teams work?

Guests can self-select their team in the lobby, get randomly shuffled into teams, or be pre-assigned by you before the event, whichever fits your group.

Random shuffle is popular for corporate events specifically because it forces people from different departments to actually mingle. That's the whole point of an icebreaker. Self-select works better for friend groups and families who already know who they want on their team. Pre-assigned teams give you full control, useful for balancing skill or splitting a big group evenly ahead of time.

Solo play works too. Not every game needs teams.

Can people watch the game without playing?

Yes. Share the public spectator link and anyone can follow the leaderboard and photo feed live, without joining as a player.

This is the move for parents at a field day, coworkers who couldn't make the offsite, or family watching a wedding hunt unfold from the bar. They see the same live leaderboard and photo activity as everyone else, just without a scorecard of their own.

Pair it with Live Photo Slideshow mode on a TV or screen, and the game becomes something the whole venue watches, not just something happening on individual phones.

What if the venue Wi-Fi is bad?

Findyst tolerates spotty connections by design. Photo uploads run in the background and retry automatically, so a bad signal doesn't stop the game.

Guests keep playing, snapping photos, and answering challenges even while an upload is stuck retrying in the background. Nothing freezes the screen waiting on a network request.

This matters more than most organizers expect going in. Basements, backyards, parks, and packed bars are exactly the venues where Wi-Fi and cell signal get overloaded fastest, and also exactly where these games happen.

Photos & privacy

Who can see the photos my guests submit?

You, the organizer. Every photo submitted to your game is visible to you, and guests are told this clearly when they join.

Beyond you, visibility depends on your settings: photos can appear on the live activity feed and slideshow for everyone playing or watching, or you can hold them back with strict moderation until you approve them.

Nobody joins without knowing this. The join flow tells guests upfront that the organizer can view and download everything submitted, including chat logs. No surprises after the fact.

Can I stop inappropriate photos from showing up?

Yes. Turn on strict mode and every photo is held for your approval before it appears anywhere guests or spectators can see it.

You review each submission and approve or reject it; only approved photos hit the live feed, the leaderboard, and the slideshow. You can also delete a submission after the fact, or remove a player entirely if someone's being a problem.

Strict mode is the setting most HR teams and teachers reach for by default. Nobody wants to explain an inappropriate photo showing up on the screen mid-event. It's one toggle, and it exists specifically for that reason.

How do I get all the photos after the event?

Everything guests submitted lands in one place in your organizer dashboard, and you can download it all in one click.

No more chasing guests for their camera roll or piecing a recap together from a dozen group chats. Every approved submission is already collected and attached to the challenge it was submitted for.

You also get a shareable, branded leaderboard page you can post or send around after the game wraps, a fast way to close out the event without building a recap yourself.

How long are the photos kept?

Photos from free games are kept for 3 days after the game ends. Paid passes extend that: 90 days (Small), 6 months (Medium), or a full year (Large).

Either way, download your photos soon after the event rather than treating Findyst as long-term storage. It's built to run your event, not to be your photo archive.

If you know you'll want the memories preserved longer, pick the pass that matches your timeline: Small buys three months, Medium half a year, and Large a full year before anything's cleared out.

Passes & pricing

How much does Findyst cost?

Findyst is free for small games. Paid passes are one-time, per event: Small $10 (up to 30 players), Medium $20 (60 players), Large $30 (150 players). No subscription, no per-guest fees.

You pick the pass sized to your event (Small, Medium, or Large), pay once, and that's it. Nothing recurring, nothing billed after the fact. The pass is tied to the event, not your account.

That's different from most tools in this space, which bill monthly or charge per head. You're paying for one event, once.

What's included in the free version?

The free tier covers full game creation and play for smaller events: challenges, a live leaderboard, moderation, and everything else you need to try it, just capped on player and challenge count.

It's a real product trial, not a stripped-down demo. You can build and run an actual game for a birthday party or a small team activity without paying anything. It's a solid way to get a feel for setup and gameplay before committing to a bigger event.

When your guest list or challenge list outgrows the free tier, you upgrade with a one-time pass sized to what you actually need. You're never pushed into a subscription to get there.

Is Findyst a subscription?

No. Findyst has no subscription for buying games today. You pay once per event with a flat pass, or play free within the free tier limits.

There's nothing recurring to remember to cancel, no monthly fee ticking away between events. If you host one event a year, you pay for one event a year. That's the whole model.

That holds whether it's your first game or your fiftieth. Pricing scales with the event you're running, not with how long you've had an account.

What if more guests show up than I planned for?

Passes are sized by player count, so if your headcount grows, you upgrade to a bigger pass. You're not locked into what you picked at checkout.

Event headcounts shift constantly. A maybe list turns into fifteen extra guests, or a team offsite picks up last-minute sign-ups. Findyst's passes are built around that reality: move up to a larger size and you're covered.

There are no per-guest surcharges or overage fees sprung on you mid-event. You choose the size once and know exactly what you're paying.

Can I get a refund?

If your game hasn't started yet, contact support and they'll sort out a refund.

Plans change. A venue falls through, a date moves. Reach out before the game kicks off and support handles it directly, rather than making you fight a self-serve cancellation flow.

Running your event

Can I schedule the game to start automatically?

Yes. Set a start time and Findyst opens a pre-game lobby where guests can join, set up their profile, and form teams ahead of the countdown.

Guests can pile into the lobby whenever they arrive, checking in, picking avatars, and settling into teams, all without seeing the challenge list early. The game opens at your scheduled time, or whenever you hit start manually if you'd rather control it live.

That's the difference between a chaotic "okay, is everyone ready?" moment and guests already sorted into teams, staring at a countdown, when the game actually begins.

Can I reuse a game I've already built for a future event?

Yes. Duplicate any past game to reuse its challenges as a starting point for your next event, or save it as your own private template.

If you run a recurring activity like a monthly team challenge or an annual family reunion hunt, you don't need to rebuild it from scratch every time. Duplicate it, tweak what's changed, and you're set.

There's also a public template bank if you're starting from zero and want inspiration rather than a blank challenge list.

What kinds of challenges can I include, and can I use templates?

Photo, video, text-answer (auto-graded), multiple-choice, and QR-scan challenges. Mix and match, set point values, and add optional hints that cost points to use.

You're not locked into one format for the whole game. A single hunt might ask for a photo at one stop, a trivia answer at the next, and a QR scan to unlock the following clue. Add a clue image if a location needs a visual hint, and set hints to cost points so teams have to decide whether they're worth spending on.

If you'd rather not build from a blank page, start from the public template bank or duplicate a game you've already run, then customize from there instead of starting cold.

How does the live photo slideshow work?

Live Photo Slideshow mode displays submitted photos and the live leaderboard on any TV or screen via a link, with no extra hardware and no app.

Open the link on whatever screen you've got, a TV at the reception or a display in the conference room, and approved photos roll in as guests submit them alongside real-time scores. It turns the game into something the whole room experiences together, not just something happening on individual phones.

Combined with the public spectator link, it's an easy way to keep non-players engaged in what's happening: parents, coworkers who stayed at their desks, guests without a phone handy.

Events & use cases

Will Findyst work for my wedding?

Yes. Guests join with a QR code on table cards, snap candid photos as challenges, and you get every photo in one place afterward instead of chasing down camera rolls.

It replaces the disposable-camera basket without the downsides: no lost cameras, no waiting on development, no guests who forgot to hand theirs back. Guests can like each other's submissions, and you can hand moderation to your maid of honor or a friend so you're not reviewing hundreds of photos yourself mid-reception.

Run it during cocktail hour or the whole reception, then pull up the live slideshow on a screen near the bar so it becomes part of the entertainment, not just a background activity.

Will it work for a corporate team-building event?

Yes. Random team shuffle mixes up departments, strict moderation keeps submissions appropriate, and the live leaderboard gives you a ready-made wrap-up moment.

It's built to get people who don't normally talk to each other moving and interacting fast, without props, trust falls, or hours of setup. You can build the whole thing on your phone the morning of if you need to.

Turn on strict mode so every photo is approved before it's visible (the setting most HR teams reach for by default), and use the spectator link so leadership or remote teammates can follow along without playing.

Will it work for a school trip or kids' event?

Yes. Guests never need an account, you control every setting, and strict moderation holds every photo for your approval before anyone sees it.

There's no signup, no email, no personal information required from students to join. They pick a display name and avatar and start playing. Text-answer challenges with auto-grading are a natural fit for museum or classroom trips where you want to confirm kids actually read the exhibit, not just walked past it.

For unreliable devices or spotty data, there's also a printable checklist option for text-based hunts as a backup, so a dead phone or blocked Wi-Fi doesn't take a kid out of the activity entirely.

Will it work for a large event with a lot of guests?

Yes. Pick a pass sized for your player count, and Findyst handles the real-time leaderboard, chat, and photo feed at scale.

Bar crawls, fundraisers, big conferences: anywhere you've got more guests than you could realistically track by hand, the live leaderboard, activity feed, and moderation tools earn their keep.

If your headcount grows after you've already bought a pass, you're not stuck. Just move up to a bigger size and you're covered for the extra guests.

Weddings

Do our guests need to download an app to play?

No. Guests scan a QR code and play in their phone's browser, with no app store and no account.

Print the QR code on a table card, the welcome sign, or a small stand near the guest book. Anyone with a smartphone and a browser can join in seconds, and there's nothing for them to install or delete afterward.

Will my grandma or my great-aunt be able to figure this out?

Yes. If she can take a photo with her phone, she can play Findyst.

There's no login screen, no menus to dig through, and no app update to fight with. And if she'd rather just watch, the live photo slideshow lets her follow along on the big screen without ever joining the game.

Who approves the photos during the reception?

You do, or whoever you designate. Turn on strict mode and every photo gets approved before it's visible.

You, your maid of honor, or a trusted friend can review submissions from a phone during the event. Nothing appears on the live slideshow or leaderboard until it's approved, and you can delete anything at any time.

How do we actually get all the photos after the wedding?

Download every submitted photo in one click from your organizer dashboard.

There's no waiting on guests to upload anything after the fact. Every photo submitted during the game is already sitting in your account, organized by challenge, ready to download the morning after.

Will this get in the way of our photographer?

No. Findyst covers what your photographer can't be everywhere for, not the other way around.

Your photographer handles the formal shots and the moments they're positioned to catch. Findyst captures everything happening across the room at the same time: different tables, the dance floor, the bar. All of it straight from your guests' phones.

Parties & celebrations

Do my guests need to download an app to play?

No. They scan a QR code and the game opens right in their phone's browser.

There's nothing to install and no account to create. A guest who shows up five minutes before the cake gets cut can join just as easily as someone who RSVP'd weeks ago.

Will this work for a crowd that spans kids to grandparents?

Yes. Joining is one QR scan, and the interface uses large, simple buttons anyone can figure out.

You don't need to explain the rules twice. Photo and video challenges give younger guests something active to do, while text and multiple-choice options work for anyone who'd rather not be on camera.

What happens to all the photos after the party's over?

Every photo submitted during the game is saved in your organizer dashboard, ready to download in one click.

No more piecing together a gallery from a dozen different group chats. Share a branded leaderboard link with guests who want to see the final results too.

Team building

Can we force people from different departments onto the same team?

Yes. Randomly shuffle every player into new teams with one setting before the game starts.

This is the fastest way to break up existing cliques at an offsite or onboarding day. If you'd rather control the groupings yourself, pre-assigned teams work too.

Do employees need to install anything on their work phones?

No. They scan a QR code and play in their browser, with no app store and no account approval.

That matters for locked-down corporate devices. IT doesn't need to whitelist anything, and there's nothing to uninstall after the event.

Can we reuse this game for our next onboarding cohort or quarterly offsite?

Yes. Duplicate any past game with one click and tweak the challenges instead of rebuilding from scratch.

Keep a library of your best icebreakers and swap in new challenges each quarter so the format doesn't go stale.

Schools & field trips

Do students need a school email or account to play?

No. Students join by scanning a QR code in their phone browser. No account and no student email required.

That means no waiting on IT approval before a trip. Anyone with a phone and a browser can join in seconds.

What if a student doesn't have a phone or the museum has no signal?

Print a paper checklist version of the hunt for a simple, text-based backup.

For students who do have a phone, background uploads tolerate spotty museum or campus wifi. A submission queues automatically and sends once there's a connection, so nothing gets lost.

Can I review submissions before the rest of the class sees them?

Yes. Turn on approval mode and nothing goes public until you've checked it.

You stay in control of what appears on the shared feed or leaderboard, which matters when you're supervising a group of students in public spaces.

Bar crawls & social nights

Does everyone need an app to play mid-crawl?

No. They scan a QR code once and play in their phone browser for the rest of the night.

One less thing to fumble with between bars. A friend who joins late at bar three scans in and catches up instantly.

Can we build a different challenge for each bar on our route?

Yes. Set up a challenge for every stop, in whatever order works for your route.

Mix dares, photo challenges, and trivia so the vibe changes bar to bar instead of feeling repetitive.

What if someone's phone dies or loses signal in a basement bar?

Photo uploads run in the background and finish once a connection comes back.

A bad signal won't cost anyone their points. The upload just waits and sends automatically.

Fundraisers & charity

Can Findyst process donations for our fundraiser?

No. Findyst runs the game and checkpoint engagement, not payment or donation processing.

Keep your existing donation or pledge platform for collecting money, and use Findyst to turn the walk route itself into something people actually want to complete.

Do walkers need to download an app to check in at each stop?

No. They scan a QR code once at the start line and play in their phone browser for the whole route.

That keeps check-in fast even with a crowd at the start. No account and no app-store friction before the walk begins.

Can we track who visited every checkpoint along the route?

Yes. Each checkpoint is its own challenge, so the live activity feed and leaderboard show exactly who completed which stops.

That replaces the paper sign-in sheet at every table and gives you a real-time view of route completion as the event happens.

City tours & creators

Can I sell my tour through Findyst?

Not yet. Findyst is built for creating and running self-guided experiences for your own groups and customers, not a marketplace.

You bring the audience and the story. Findyst handles the challenge-building, QR check-ins, and photo proof that make the tour interactive.

Do I need to be there while a group plays my tour?

No. Groups scan a QR code and play independently in their phone browser, at their own pace.

That's the whole point of self-guided: one route, run for as many groups as show up, without you walking alongside each one.

How do I prove a group actually found the right spot and didn't just wander off?

Require a photo at the landmark, or post a QR code there that unlocks the next clue.

Either method confirms physical presence without needing anyone to check in manually.

Family & community

Will this work for a mix of little kids and grandparents?

Yes. Joining is one QR scan, and the screens use large buttons and simple text anyone can follow.

You won't need to explain the rules twice. Photo and video challenges keep younger kids active, while text challenges work for anyone who'd rather not be on camera.

What if some kids don't have their own phone?

Print a paper checklist for a simple, text-based version of the hunt, or pair them up with an adult's phone.

Either way, nobody's left out because they don't have a device of their own.

Can I reuse this for our next block party or scout meeting?

Yes. Duplicate any past game and swap in new challenges instead of building from scratch.

Keep your best challenges from last time and just refresh a few to keep it feeling new.
